Phone Home Program

Thank you so much for your willingness to reach out to those struggling souls on the streets. Please try to limit your group to around 15 to 20 individuals, including two or more adult supervisors.

For those of you that volunteer with the Phone Home program we encourage you to bring large coats and blankets. You can also bring other items you think would be needed by the homeless, such as fruit snacks, toothbrushes, etc.

Mamma's Hands Phone Home Program provides an innovative opportunity for the homeless to contact their families. Armed with cellular phones, Denny and Mamma's Hands volunteers take the Mamma's Hands' bus to downtown Seattle. Once there, the phones are distributed among the homeless, allowing them to contact their families and perhaps arrange a way to return home. To date, Mamma's Hands have reunited hundreds of individuals with their families.

Mamma’s Hands has made an effort to use local area youth to staff the truck, manage the cell phones and provide food, blankets and a listening ear. These activities have given many young people an understanding of community needs and a joy that comes only through helping others. The relationship between those who serve and those who are served has become one of mutual trust and hope.

The Mamma's Hands bus leaves the Eastgate Dairy Queen for downtown Seattle each Wednesday at 6:00p.m., and returns at about 8 p.m.. Group Leaders please call Denny at (425) 802-9595 the day of your group's participation so that Denny can remind you of what to bring and any other last-minute information. If you would like to volunteer for this program and schedule a date, either as an individual or as a high school, church, or corporate group, please sign up by clicking the date below. If you need help signing up call Denny at (425) 802-9595.

Mamma's Hands in Salt Lake City, faithful volunteers from the Mamma's Hands Seattle program started and have kept up the Salt Lake program from 1995 to the present. We leave Orem/Provo every sunday and head to Salt Lake where we help the homeless get in touch with loved ones.

To all Phone Home Program Users

If you need help getting home and you have family that is willing to sacrifice by funding at least half of the bus fare, Mamma's Hands will gladly consider the other half, up to one hundred dollars, based on the percieved humility and readiness of the individual. You need to be willing to do whatever it takes to get yourself back on your feet including writing several pages on your life, do your best to help us understand what brought you to homelesnes as well as how you see your journey to recovery. It doesn't need to be incredible, it needs to be honest and as comprehensive as you are able. A simple, What I did last summer won't do. We need sincerity and clarity. It's more for you than us. We want to see that you are looking both to the future and the past. We need to know that the help we give you is indeed putting you on a course of real recovery. Only the humble, honest, respectful individuals will be considered. We are not a travel agency. We reunite families.
